Features

Answers you can trace back.

Repolupe reads your repositories as they are and links every answer to the documents it came from.

Any git server

GitHub, GitLab, Forgejo or your own server. Large files in Git LFS work too.

AI-powered chat

Ask questions in plain language. The assistant searches and reads your files and answers with the documents it used.

Private by design

No analytics, no tracking. Run a local model and the built-in OCR, and your documents and chats never leave your own infrastructure.

Tiny footprint

With a minimal setup, Repolupe needs only about 20 MB of RAM. It runs happily on the smallest VPS, right next to everything else on your server.

Built-in OCR

Scanned PDFs become searchable text with the built-in Tesseract or PaddleOCR, or with third-party services like Mistral OCR.

Free and open source

No license fees, no seat limits. Read the code, run it wherever you like, and help make it better.

Read only or write

Ask questions. Or add what you know.

You decide whether the assistant only answers, or also keeps your knowledge base up to date: for each repository, and for each person you share it with.

Read only

The assistant searches and reads your files to answer your questions, but never changes them.

  • Answers with the documents it used
  • Your files stay exactly as they are
  • Share repositories with others without worrying
When does my car insurance renew?

On March 1. You can cancel it until January 31, as your policy says:

Write

Drop a document into the chat or just tell it what's new. The assistant finds the right place, writes it down and proposes a commit.

  • Documents are filed next to the ones they belong with
  • New information updates your notes
  • Review every change before it is applied, or let it apply automatically

One instance, many platforms

Run it once. Use it everywhere.

A single Repolupe instance connects your git servers to the LLM providers of your choice and serves every device you own.

Low footprint

25× lighter than the usual suspects

Most self-hosted knowledge bases need a database server, a search engine and a runtime before you have written a single page. Repolupe is one small binary with an embedded SQLite database.

Memory usage
Repolupe
~20 MB
Typical knowledge bases
500+ MB

Repolupe without OCR or with Mistral OCR. Local OCR with Tesseract or PaddleOCR needs more memory while it converts documents.

Why git

Your knowledge deserves a solid foundation

Git has stored the source code of the world's software for two decades. It is just as good at storing everything else you know.

  1. No vendor lock-in

Your documents are plain files in a repository you own. Move them, back them up or leave Repolupe at any time: nothing is trapped in a proprietary database.

  2. Industry standard

Git is an open standard that's here to stay. Your documents stay readable, whatever app you use tomorrow.

  3. Robust

Every change is versioned, every clone is a full backup, and nothing is ever lost. See who changed what and when, and go back whenever you need to.

Easy setup

From zero to answers in three steps

  1. 1

    Create a key

It encrypts the access tokens of your repositories and your API keys. Keep it safe.

    $ echo "TOKEN_ENCRYPTION_KEY=$(openssl rand -hex 32)" > .env
  2. 2

    Start the container

The database and the mirrored repositories are stored in the volume.

    $ docker run -d --name repolupe --env-file .env \
        -p 3000:3000 -v repolupe-data:/data \
        --restart unless-stopped ghcr.io/repolupe/repolupe
  3. 3

    Log in and connect

Open http://localhost:3000 and log in as admin with the password repolupe123, which you change right away. Then add an LLM provider and your first repository.

Your knowledge, your servers, your rules.

Repolupe is free and open source. Give it a try and tell us what you think.
